Champions off the Mountain
Ski Town U.S.A. Initiative
Mountain Valley Bank, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Christy Sports, Smartwool, Steamboat Springs School District, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp., and the City of Steamboat Springs come together to provide all the components necessary to run the Ski Town, U.S.A.® Initiative. This program gives every Steamboat Springs School District 2nd grader the opportunity to learn to ski/ride at no cost. Four days of ski lessons are provided to each child who participates in this program. The program is held at historic Howelsen Hill Ski Area during school days in January and February. Each student participates in a two-hour lesson coached by SSWSC athletes and coach volunteers through the SSWSC ‘Champions of Service’ program. We observe our competitive athletes in their role as excellent youth mentors for the kids and are impressed with their kindness, patience and positive energy.

ACE Club After School Ski Program
With rental gear provided by Ski and Bike Kare and coaching from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, twenty-five 4th and 5th grade kids who participate in the Soda Creek Elementary “ACE” Club come to ski or ride for three free sessions at historic Howelsen Hill. Most of the kids participating in the “Achieving, Collaborating, and Exploring” Club’s after school ski program use English as a second language. The focus of the group remains on homework help and developing vocabulary, reading and writing skills, but the group also embarks on adventures through the community to grow vocabulary and provide kids with the chance to experience new things they wouldn’t normally do. The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is proud to work with the ACE club to bring skiing and riding to these students. Read about the program in the Steamboat Pilot and Today

Champions of Service
The community does so much to support our SSWSC athletes, we think it is important that our athlete's recognize this and give back! The Champions of Service program encourages each SSWSC team to find volunteer opportunities in the community, from river clean up, tree planting, or community recycling outreach! We are honored to give back to the community that supports our athletes!
